When you combine Northern White Cedar logs, with our special double tongue and groove system, it's more than just a home! We choose cedar logs as our primary product because of its natural resistance to decay and insects. We believe cedar to be superior to other log species in that it resists shrinking and warpage when properly dried and adds strength to any home. Also, cedar has the best insulating value of all other wood species. We hand select only top quality cedar for our homes. We mill our cedar logs to a uniform shape with double tongue and groove, all necessary notches are pre-cut and numbered, to give a much tighter lock and extremely efficient wall. As well as making our homes buildable by the homeowner, when you erect the log walls you are not only framing the house, you are also insulating the house and completing the interior and exterior walls. An added plus to a log home is the fact that they need very little maintenance. We recommend that the exterior log walls be treated with a wood preservative or stain. If left untreated the logs will eventually weather to a mature gray color. Most Moosehead Cedar Log Home owners choose to stain their homes with either a clear wood preservative or a wood stain the color of their choice. We will make free on site visits during construction to help insure you of a quality built home and remember, we are always just a phone call away if any questions should arise. CUSTOM DESIGNING: FAST AND FREE Moosehead Cedar Log Homes has its own computerized drafting department that enables it to design homes to customer specification quickly and efficiently. Moosehead Cedar prides itself on responding to each customer's individual design requirements. Although we have an extensive collection of standard log home designs to stimulate customer's ideas, more than 90% of our homes are manufactured to custom plans developed through consultations with the buyer. We are particular about making every Moosehead Cedar Log Home a custom home so we offer numerous options: Interior partitions can be any material you prefer ... pine, cedar, drywall, etc. The decision is entirely yours depending on your taste. Our package does include knotty pine tongue and groove boards for interior partitions which do not demand any special treatment. Some owners varnish to enhance the beauty of the wood and for ease in cleaning. Another decision that is entirely yours is the floor plan. We will modify any of our 30 plans to suit your needs or custom design your home for you. This custom design option is free and we will also give you a package price for your custom home. Other options include: Hand peeled or machined round log loft floor joist and roof purlins, joist and purlins , hand hewn logs and Pella Windows.

Moosehead Cedar's log home packages are completely precut and numbered. This permits rapid construction of the home by crews who principally "assemble" the component parts into the home. An average size log home (1,500 Square Feet) takes eight to 12-15 weeks to complete to move-in condition on a prepared site. The exact construction period is dependent on the interior finishes selected.

The quality program at Moosehead Cedar Log Homes begins in the forest where our own loggers and contractors select the best looking stems for diversion to the log home factory. The cut ends of every potential log home log are inspected for signs of decay or damage which are automatic grounds for rejecting the stems from further consideration for log homes. The next inspection is at Moosehead Cedar Log Homes sawmill. Each log is inspected once again for any sign of damage and for desirability as a log home log. Those not meeting exacting specifications are diverted to other markets for lower quality logs. Each employee in the manufacturing plant is trained to constantly inspect for log quality. Moosehead Cedar Log Homes also purchases some timbers from other sawmills. These timbers are subject to the same exacting inspection.
