Cedar is the premium wood species for log homes because of its natural resistance to decay and insects, its inherent strength, its resistance to checking, warping, moving and shrinking when properly dried and perhaps most importantly, for its natural beauty. We manufacture our homes from Northern White Cedar, one of the most abundant cedar species in North America. Northern White Cedar has the greatest insulating value of any of the woods commonly used for log homes. Northern White Cedar - 1.41 - R-Value per inch Eastern White Pine - 1.32 Western Red Cedar - 1.09 Southern Yellow Pine - 0.91 Northern White Cedar is less brittle than western red cedar and is substantially more uniform in color. We select only top quality cedar for our homes from local logging operations, and when necessary, from mills around the country. |
